Course outline

Learning (LMS)

The course outline is the canonical learning path students follow in My courses. It replaces ad-hoc lists of files with ordered sections and activities.

Course

A sellable or assignable product (for example “CBSE Class 10 Mathematics: English medium”) with catalogue metadata, pricing, and publication flag.

Section

A module or chapter folder in the outline (for example “Real Numbers”, “Polynomials”). Sections appear as cards when the student opens the course.

Activity

A single learning step inside a section. Types:

  • Video: Instructional video (upload or external YouTube URL)
  • Document: PDF or downloadable material
  • Rich text: Reading lesson in HTML
  • Quiz: Mock test with scoring rules

Publication

Both the course and each activity can be published or hidden. Unpublished activities do not appear in the student path.

Progress

The platform records engagement per activity (views, completions, quiz attempts). The gradebook aggregates quiz performance.

Build an outline (administrator or expert)

  1. Manage courses → open the course.
  2. Open Outline / outline builder.
  3. Add section → enter a clear section title.
  4. With the section selected, Add activity → choose type.
  5. Complete the form:
  • Video: title, description, YouTube URL or upload.
  • Document: title, upload PDF.
  • Rich text: title, body content.
  • Quiz: link to mock test; configure questions separately.
  1. Set Published when ready.
  2. Drag to reorder sections and activities.
  3. Save.

Instructional design tips

  • Keep sections to 5-12 activities where possible.
  • Alternate consume (video/reading) with practice (quiz).
  • Use consistent naming (“Lecture 3: Factorisation”, not internal codes).
  • Attach one mock test per major topic rather than one giant exam.

Gradebook and quizzes

Open the course Gradebook tab to review attempt summaries. Edit quiz content via the mock test editor linked from the quiz activity.

Student experience

Students: My courses → course → section → activity list. Videos and documents open in the viewer; quizzes launch the timed player when configured.

What you gain

  • Clear expectations for learners
  • Measurable completion per topic
  • Easier expert handover between academic years

Troubleshooting

Quiz does not start Mock test published; activity published; student subscribed
Video will not play Valid URL; codec support; try external YouTube embed
Document blank PDF uploaded; file reachable from server
Expert cannot edit Course assigned to expert; LMS plugin enabled
